in:Tangible – UX/UI Internship

in:Tangible was the name created for my team members in our UX/UI design journey into death and grieving as part of our in-class internship at York University for a company called “A Touch From Beyond”. A Touch from Beyond specializes in cards that can be written before death that loved ones receive after death. As part of our project we undertook stakeholder interviews; affinity, empathy and journey mapping; a competitive and accessibility analysis and included key findings and recommendations. In addition, we were responsible for the overall UI of the shop we designed for the owner to sell her cards online.

Master’s Thesis – Design to Reduce Pediatric Dental Anxiety

I used ethnographic and extensive background research to design a handheld controller for children to use during an anxious visit to the dentist. The controller has a video game function for distraction purposes and a empowering alarm function to signal the dentist of discomfort. Other deliverables include a mood board and an illustrated storyboard showing the Gomi controller in use as well as additional office design recommendations to limit children’s fear. This project was featured in the Calgary Herald, Sun and nationally in the Globe and Mail.

Reeve Link- University of Calgary

The Reeve Link was a utilitarian walkway between two campus buildings that we transformed into a social and working space for students. After observing and interviewing people as to how the space was used, the angled inspiration of the design came from the flow of traffic through the space, as well as the shadows cast by the window mullions.

Kip Pet Products

I created Kip Pet Products, where I manufactured hand-crafted products and sold them locally and internationally while I stayed home with young kids. The concept was to create pet products that pets would love and would add to people’s home décor, not detract. The Nesto Pet Bed was featured as one of three finalists in an Avenue Magazine design competition.
